“Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung, 36, will challenge for the top spot in the UFC’s featherweight (65.8 kg) rankings.
The main event of UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. Korean Zombie takes place tonight (Nov. 26) at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Former UFC featherweight champion and current No. 1 Max Holloway (32-USA) said during a press conference in April, “Chan Sung Jung is the only one of the great veteran fighters of his generation that I haven’t fought.”
Holloway responded by saying, “I’m open to fighting anytime, anywhere,” and the matchup was finalized.
Chung has been training in the U.S. to get in shape and is now looking forward to the fight.
Chung suffered a devastating loss to Alexander Volkanovsky last year, and at one point, he talked about retirement. His performance against Volkanovski was so disappointing that he felt he had hit an insurmountable ‘wall’.
However, Holloway’s demand for a fight has reignited his fighting spirit.
“At first, I thought Holloway was a legendary player who I respected,” Chung said at a media day on April 24. But now I think he’s a player I want to win unconditionally. I have no intention of losing,” he said.
“If I beat him (Holloway), it means that the No. 1 in the world is in Korea,” he said, adding, “I think it will be a good goal for the juniors if I make a path for them.”
Chung is 7-4 in the UFC (17-7 overall).
Holloway, a 12-year UFC veteran, is 20-7 in the UFC (24-7 overall).
Meanwhile, the first bout of the night’s undercard will feature “Sting” Choi, 30, taking on striker Yarno Ehrens, 28-Netherlands. 온라인카지노
